Beat the System

Well kids,
Yesterday I submitted my letter of resignation literally moments before they were going to fire me. Little did they know that I had the 411 on their plan!
Why were they going to fire me, you ask? (I mean, aside from the obvious book controversy) Because a group of my darling AP boys, who will herein remain unnamed, decided to ignore my "if your mom can watch it, so can we" guidelines, and made a grossly inappropriate final movie. Well, someone else (do any of you know who this person was?) ran up to administration and told them about these boys' little film, and the next thing you know, somehow I am getting fired. Just? I think not.
But if we have learned anything this year, it's that the world is not fair and somehow we need to live a life we believe in regardless. Well, I am living that life, and if it means getting fired, so be it. And of course, you all also realize that the book is really why I'm getting fired; they just couldn't use that as the reason because of the principal's signature.
Anyway, I promised I'd keep you updated on this blog, so here's the first one. And like I've been telling you guys, you only live once, so take the situations life hands you and make the best of them. When one door closes, another opens somewhere, even if you can't see it right away.
Ok, so now it's your turn. Keep us updated, too, will ya?

Where can i start??? I have so many things to say. I just read what you wrote ms. velin and i can't belive it. How can that school do that? How can administration be so cruel? Every good teacher that cares and tries to help ends up getting in deep problems. Even though we were not close and didn't talk you were and always will be an inspiration to me. I wish that someday i could grow and be a person like you. You are one of the very few teachers that will forever reamin in my heart. i value teachers who actually take into teaching and caring; i dread being in classes where the teachers don't do anything except sit and play games on their computers. Those are the teachers that should get fired, the one's who shouldn't be allowed near a school to be teachers' not teachers like you ms. velin. You are the kind that students remember forever, the one's that students will do anything just to help you out. I hate that school's administration. Thank god, i only have one more year in that school. Thank you for everything you did for us, for believing in us, and not giving up in us or our books. I don't like saying good-bye so until next time. I know someday you will be someone who does something big. You will be a great catalyst for change in this world Because remember, you change the world by doing small actions of kindness at a time, and you've done more than a few with your students at rialto. I will always remember you and you will forever be in my heart. Thank you so much for everything you did for us. I had hoped that the school would have seen what you did and not taken it as bad, and given us our books back. but they didn't. Now all we have are the memories of what your classes created: a book where every student poured out their soul; but unfortunately we were silenced. I still hope to get those books back, but i know it won't be possible. My only regret is that you and I didn't develop a stronger bond, because eventhough i won't forget you, you won't remember me. I know that by putting my name will possibly defeat the whole purpose of this but i just want you to know that i care.

Monica,
You have no idea how I needed to hear what you wrote! Thank you so very much for your sweet words; they mean more than you can know.
I'm not sure what the future holds for me, but I thank you for your encouragement and support. Sometimes when so many people are against you, you wonder if you are perhaps the one who is wrong. So again, thank you.
And yes, you were quiet, but strong inside. I also wish we were able to get to know one another, but I guess the lesson is that we don't have all the time in the world, so do what we can when we can. Next year if you come across a teacher that you really relate to, MAKE yourself open up and be known. It feels great and you will be so glad you did!
Keep me posted, and if you take AP next year, try to get Ms. Johnston.

Um, I don't know. It's possible I accidentally typed in the wrong letter. Tell me your last name and the period you were in and I will check it asap. I'll let you know what I find out and if I made a mistake, I'll change it.
Let me know asap!

I dont have much time, gotta get back to reading but I read what happened and yeah, I'm completly behind what you did, I would have done the same, well not really, I would have probably gone out in a blaze of glory but you did the right thing. I'm sorry that those students did that, ignorance runs high in high school, youre an awesome teacher, sorry that those students caused what they did. I want to thank you for everything, not many teachers try to do anything different from the usual, so thanks for keeping it interesting and mainly for keeping it REAL! Definatly one teach & class I wont forget. And even though I probably didnt seem like it, I was willing to stand behind you to the bitter end if it came down to it when the whole book issue happened.

But umm I graduated, I wasnt sure if i was or not and in the end i wound up with 4 A's, 3 B's and 15 extra credits. I started at RCC on monday, taking developmental psychology and intro to sociology, awesome stuff so far, and even though ive only been in each class twice, I hate the public school system and media 10 times more.

so yeah, thanks for everything, gotta get back to reading psych!
