I would love to hear what you are thankful for in your life today. It's so easy for us (human nature, really) to talk about what we hate or want to change or are bummed about, but we don't often focus and NAME the good things in our lives. It's almost like we have to fight against that negative nature in order to see that which is good (even if it feels like very, very little at the time).
So if you get a chance in this next month, post here what is good in your life. It is amazing how a simple thing like acknowledging that there is good, can change your outlook and actually bring more of that goodness to you.
I know this sounds kind of "hippy dippy", but it is true, and those damn hippies are happy and content with life for a reason! (I mean, besides the weed :-))
So, let's here it. You only live once; might as well meditate on the good of that life, right?

I am thankful for having an open mind. I made some poor decisions during my first half of high school but I'm making up for lost time. I am, and always will be, thankful for what I learned in your class at Rialto High Camie Jo. :) I still have the quote you assigned to me posted up on my MySpace page "It is our choices that show who we are, far more than our abilities". And I continue to seize the day everyday. I have decided what I want to do with my life. I'm going to change the world and try my best to make it a better place by helping others. Someone, somewhere, needs help and I'm going to be the one who helps them. I have big ambitions and I am starting my journey next year by moving to New York and joining an organization called City Year. There, I'll be mentoring kids that are struggling with problems at home and that are in danger of dropping out of school. I'll be living in New York for a year. After that, I'll be moving on to bigger and better things. :) I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to do this. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Danny! That is sooo amazing and I am sooo proud of you! Your post almost made me cry. The whole reason i teach is to see my students learn and realize that they can and must make this world a better place. You make my heart sing, Danny.
I am thankful for human beings like you. :)
Being thankful has been expressed my many people though eloquent words, music, art and action. All of this is great and inspiring but if we can't make it real in our own lives we've missed purpose and the joy of living. The foundation of a thankful heart and mind is perspective. What some people see as loss can be seen as gain by others. We should always be thankful for friends, loved ones, a career, an ability or an experience but what about difficult times and difficult situations? If we embrace these things, we grow, we appreciate and we become stronger. I am thankful for my family, people that love me unconditionally, things I never thought were possible and ALL that my life has brought me because it serves a beautiful purpose.
If a man isn't thankful for what he's has, he isn't likely to be thankful for what he's going to get. ~ Frank Clark
